Work at Long Drax on the river bank

The Environment Agency are doing the much needed repairs on the river bank at Main Rd Long Drax. When the banks were raised (rather than bother dredging lol) they tried to soften the appearance with the introduction of trees and stone walls along it. At some point it was decided the trees were an issue so they chopped them down and left the stump. Those stumps have rotted and the result is a weakened bank with the stone walls now cracking.

The further problem was that where the trees were they didn’t pile with steel shuttering, just either side of them. This is now being rectified and at the same time they are raising it another 6 inches. They are also going to sort the stone walls out but that is more for appearance.

Make no mistake, had they not done this then the risk of flooding in the area was huge. And so what you may say!? Well several homes would have been flooded along with Drax Power Station and if it isn’t windy and is a dull day then we would have to import a lot of our electricity from France or switch off!!!

So I thank the residents there for making the authorities aware and continuing to press them on this.
