We are all aware that there are issues and the current government just seem to be making things worse. Not content with ignoring what is going on around them they are now reacting to whatever crisis has the highest priority, rather than governing.
- Heating oil prices—this is nothing new, it happens every time there is an oil crisis and heating oil has NEVER been part of any strategy—despite the fact over 1.5m homes have always been on oil.It now appears it is–possibly because labour MPs are getting it in the neck and value their pay and conditions.
- Youth unemployment. Put up minimum wage, raise National Insurance and all of a sudden those still living with their parents or a student trying to get a part time job, are finding there are no jobs. The pubs and hotels are not taking on staff to try and stay afloat but sadly a lot of pubs are closing or reducing opening hours as folk are spending less on dining out. We have 17.5% unemployment in that sector which is a waste.
- Electric vehicles. We are getting suggestions that companies that make cars are wanting to continue making alternatives to electric. Can we get something sorted with road tax first please? Road tax was based mainly on size and weight of the vehicle, hence lorries pay an awful lot more. EVs weigh twice as much as an ordinary car so should be twice as expensive on road tax. It also takes up to 4 years before they produce less CO2 than a normal car. Derek and Matthewsons (Bangers and Cash) thinks it is a fad, like is was at the turn of the century, that will go out of fashion. We have 600 years worth of oil reserves, that gives us time to develope other modes of transport properly rather than the headlong swing into not making any cars in the country any more. What turned Japan and Germany round after the devestation of the 2nd world war? Getting people busy making things and cars fitted that need.
- Pot holes—that has gone up massivly—could it be because of EVs? Just putting it out there!!
