It is worth remembering we have a population of about 65m. 6m of them work for the government both locally and nationally. Then there are a number below 18 not working plus a number above 65 not working, then there are over 5m unemployed then we have another 1m below 24 not in work or training.
So it does appear that not too many are working and creating wealth for the economy. One can thus understand those few are also being taxed to the hilt (however you can get money off at a theme park or 2). Oh and I forgot the capping of some essential foods.
The result of all this is that the public purse required an extra 25% of borrowing compared to the same month last year and its now the highest ever post Covid. Sales fell by about 1.3pc partly due to folk driving less due to the cost of fuel. The CBI (Confederation of British Industry) reported lowest order levels since covid and there has been a dramatic fall in sales in London after the tax-free shopping for tourists was dropped. Clothes sales nationally are down 2.4pc
Final thought. The announced 5p rise in fuel duty is not happening. It’s not an actual cut. The government moaned about the likes of BP making a huge profit on oil sales—I wonder how much extra the government made in the past 2 months!!!
