Today I listened to a lady give a very passionate story about her husband and his illness and her selfless devotion to caring for him. It really brings it home to you what a lot of people are going through. The lady got a carers allowance of £82/week. She is what is know as a WASPI lady, so when she finally was allowed her state pension she had to ask why she wasn’t getting it—the response was ‘you are getting a carers allownace’!!! Needless to say that is sorted but I then went to a Care Home with a difference. It looks after those who have had a brain injury such as the result of a stroke, and the staff there are again so supportive and caring. I had a look round, the ‘inmates’ have their own private space, they can do their own cooking, there is a small ‘time out’ area, a small gym and a good size canteen area where they can all get together.
The outside area needs some funding to smarten it up and remove trip hazards etc and in the summer it will be a lovely area to chill.
Big thank you to all the staff for such a warm welcome today.
