North Yorkshire Councillors are about to start ‘wrestling’ with sorting out the budget for the next financial year (2024/5). Approximately half its budget goes on Adult Social Care and Children and Young Peoples Services and the pressures are never ending. There are a lot more ‘statemented children’ now than there has ever been which now includes those with autism and the funind from Government does not cover the cost. On top of that general funding for children in North Yorkshire puts us down in 142nd out of 155 councils which I am told is an unmoveable state.
Savings will be made as we are now a unitary council and I am told there will be some redundancies coming down the pipeline, plus the council will start sorting out the duplication of assets it now has (in Selby we have the old district council building and the Area 7 depot plus a number of smaller buildings scattered around in Selby).
