Decision to delay A66 upgrade is disappointing for our residents and businesses – Transport for the North

The A66 is a critical link in transport infrastructure, both for N Yorks and for anyone coming from further east heading to the far NW or western Scotland. It should be dualled throughout.

Of course, it ties in with so many other broken promises and cans kicked into the long grass.

The cancelling of the HS2 line beyond Birmingham was supposed to release lots of funds, but they will probably be mainly spent in seats with red-wall Conservatives. A classic start to this was the announcement of the upgrades to the station in Dewsbury for Mark Eastwood MP (who is actually one of the hard working tories!) It was actually announced the day BEFORE HS2 was cancelled—ooops!!
