Today I visited the Thirsk Auction House for a meeting with farmers who wished to discuss the inheritance issue amongst other things. A number of different political parties were in attendence and spoke on the panel about the issue and what to do going forward. It just about sums it up with the labour party when their spokesman, as good as he is, is based in Selby. It might be North Yorkshire but I wouldn’t call it local!! Reform members were there is force throughout the event and Mark, the local member in Thirsk spoke passionately about the subject.
There was a significant number of farmers present, probably 2/3 of the audience and most of their hands stayed in the air when asked if the inheritence tax would affect their family. As an example one farmer with 500 acres reckons it wil cost him £1.26m when his father passes away, and dddtha figure was arrive at by his accountant—someone who generally knows figures!!
