Motorcycle Policy
The Yorkshire Party recognises motorcycles as a valid form of transport with great potential to provide cheap, environmentally friendly and congestion-reducing benefits. With over 5 million road users qualified to ride powered two wheelers, we are determined to work with the riding community to achieve a constructive relationship that leads to sensible motorcycle and scooter related policies.
Motorcycles reduce congestion through their agility and ability to flow through traffic jams, thereby reducing the road traffic burden. They use far fewer materials in their manufacture and take up much less room when parked.
The Yorkshire Party would offer the following policies:
- We will lower motorcycle thefts by providing earmarked funds to police for the capture of motorcycle thieves.
- To help the prevention of motorcycle thefts, we will work with the local authorities and private car parks owners to improve access to secure motorcycling facilities free of charge.
- To aid with reducing traffic congestion, we will provide motorcycles with default access to bus lanes.
- We are committed to working with motorcycling riders’ rights organisations such as the Motorcycle Action Group, to ensure informed policy making.
- We will implement a low taxation regime for motorcycles
- We will protect riders’ right to choose the form of motorcycle they want to ride, and scrap unnecessary legislation threatening to ban the sale of new petrol-powered motorcycles.
- We will repeal the mandatory motorcycle helmet law, in line with the tenets of informed freedom of choice.
