As a consequence of a cllr stepping down we have had a by-election in Eastfield at Scarborough. There were 6 candidates but the Reform Candidate actually got over 62% of the total vote. Turnout was low at 17% but that is the decision of the electorate, they can vote or not vote!!
The new cllr is Tom Seston and he will join me as part of the group of independents at North Yorkshire Council. It is a mixed bunch with a shared aim of doing the best it can for its residents and is there to help hold the ruling group (itself a mixed bunch of Conservatives and independents) to account.
I take the opportunity to thank the residents of Eastfield, many of which we met on the Sunday before polling day.
