Like many of you I’ve been extremely unsatisfied by our Tory government who seem to have abandoned their electorate, going hell-bent towards annihilation in the coming election. That led me to dally with the Yorkshire Party, who seemed at least to have Yorkshire’s interests in mind. Unfortunately they have not displayed any inclination or enthusiasm to achieve what we would expect them to do, so for that reason I have resigned from YP and will not be standing as their candidate for Mayor of N. Yorkshire.
We seem to bounce between Tory and Labour parties every 10-15 years, whilst government of both stripes think only 5 years ahead, which does no favours at all to industry whose investment plans rely on some semblance of stability.
We really need to see some stability from both parties with better cross party representation within both houses of Parliament to achieve their plans and goals. We’re not getting that now, so some reform is long overdue.
For example, we cannot prosper without access to good quality steel, but both Governments allowed our steel-making industries to be sold to overseas investors. No surprise that when they allowed cheaper Chinese steel to undercut our products the foreign owners first demanded more tax-payer subsidies, then ended up shutting plants down entirely, devastating whole communities.
We’re in danger of becoming a service based economy unable to manufacture vitally needed products, relying only on imports to keep us going. It shouldn’t be like this.
After recently meeting a group of very enthusiastic people from a party with real vision and determination to actually serve the electorate, plus ever-rising popularity with ordinary decent people, I am now a proud member of Reform UK. A new journey and a new chapter!
