Councillor/Employment/Family                                                                                                

I am a councillor for North Yorkshire and passionate about Yorkshire and all it stands for. I volunteer at EVERY cycling event in the county and was born and bred in Yorkshire. I have lived in Hornsea, Huddersfield, Castleford, and Knottingley and now reside close by in Sherburn-in-Elmet.

Married to Sally, retired school teacher with 2 children, one of whom is a Paramedic and the other an IT specialist.

Councillor/Activist activities

Designated Roles as a councillor

  • Chaired various meetings at both Selby District and North Yorkshire
  • Work with the local LEP
  • Pension Board activity
  • Drainage Board work

Election Work

  • Working with a number of MPs over the period 2007 to present day:

Nigel Adams MP for 2010 election and continued to support

Andrea Jenkyns MP from 2013 onwards until elected

Alex Shelbrooke MP until elected and then for a further 2 years to help consolidate the constituency, working with Ryan Stephenson

  • Stood as MP for Hemsworth in 2017 elections under Mrs May, took the vote from the normal 9,500 to 15,500
  • Stood for the Yorkshire Party and ran as campaign manager for the Selby District Elections were we secured 4 councillors and came close to 5. (Had we got 5 then the conservatives would have lost control)

Additional work on elections

  • Coordinator for the Brexit Campaign in the Selby District Area throughout the campaign
  • Chief assistant with Geoff Pickering to get Mathew Grove elected at the PFCC in Hull against John Prescot in 2012. We won ‘Best Campaign’ award and Geoff had to go to London to collect.
  • Managed the by-election for a district cllr in Selby area and won in what was previously always a labour seat.
  • Work continually on council elections and PFCC elections

Interests and Activities

Hobbies:          I enjoy car restoration and motorcycling. I am a member of Motorcycle Action

                        Group which campaigns regularly in Yorkshire, I now manage part of an

                        Event which is held every summer at Helmsley with up to 10,000 folk.

Business:         I started and still manage what is now one of the largest single make Ford car clubs, the Mk1 Cortina Owner’s Club, which is wholly run by volunteers. I am Chairman of the club as well as being one of the directors.
