Wetherby and Easingwold

I have no idea when the general election will take place, that is in the gift of the government, but there is time to form sensible opposition to either of the 2 main parties and have a re-think abut how the country is run.

We do have some form of extraction from the EU but it isn’t complete by any means and indeed the press has reported how much we, as a nation, are still paying to that union.

It is further complicated by the issue of the ‘border’ for Northern Island which still has to be resolved. This and the amount of people still arriving here illegally from the perfectly safe country of France adds to the pressure for resolution.

We have a housing crisis. The housing growth cannot keep pace with the population growth. This country built 240,000 houses last year but the population rose by 700,000, and those people need to be housed. Landlords are increasingly deciding to sell up their properties. Rent is classed as income and is taxed, house prices have soared, so it makes sense to sell up, pay the capital gains tax and not bother providing homes for those who cannot afford a deposit or mortgage.

We also still have an inflation issue. The papers are reporting that food inflation is down to 3%. That may well be the case BUT the cost of that food is still 20% higher than it was a year ago, it didn’t fall back down to the previous levels and in that time wages didn’t go up 20%.

We need reform and we need it this year before it is too late.
