Closure of Carlton High School

As you will probably be aware a decision has been made by the trust/academy that runs the High School at Carlton to close the school. This was requested a while ago to the Secretary of State for Education and has been approved.

There is actually no consultation with the public or parents of children at the school, just a ‘listening period’ for people to discuss. This will be the final academic year for the school which will thus close next summer.

Any parent who has requested their child to attend the school will be offered a different choice.

The premises are owned by the trust/academy, the playing fields adjoining the school are owned by North Yorkshire Council.

The principal reason is falling numbers making the school unviable.

My thoughts are with the staff and pupils at this moment in time as it is not a decision anyone wants to make and it will have consequences for all involved.

(It was a little different when Drax Primary closed as it was down to 11 pupils due to parents choosing a different school for their child).
