I write regarding the illegal travellers site on Betteras Hill near Hillam. Some interesting facts have come to light during initial discussions.
- They have tapped into the mains electric and connected up.
- They have then connected to the water supply.
Are they paying for any of this?—absolutely not! It has also emerged this has happened on the other illegal site off the A63 at Lumby. So they haven’t paid for a considerable amount of time.
Have the police done anything about this illegal act—NOT ONE BIT!
The council are not helping and I can list the following sites
- The one on the old A1m near the Boot and Shoe roundabout—bigger than allowed planning approval
- One near Drax power station—been illegal for 13 year
- This new one at Hillam—illegal
- The one on the A63 near Lumby—illegal
- One at Biggin by B1222 crossroads–also completely illegal
So it appears you can do what you like when you like in North Yorkshire out in open countryside, but try having an elderly relative in a single caravan in your own garden so you can look after her, and the full might of Enforcement will come down with every bit of power it can.
